Meet Your Councillors

Parish Councillors are local, receive no payment and are not to be confused with District (East Suffolk) or County (Suffolk) Councillors who have political affiliation.

Please contact individual Councillors or the Clerk about any specific village enquiries.

We have one vacancy for a Councillor.

James Hardy

Duties & Responsibilities: Chair

I have lived and worked in the village of Hacheston since 1961. I was previously a Parish Councillor during the nineties and have recently rejoined. My parents moved from Walton near Felixstowe to make Hacheston their home in 1961 and I grew up with my three sisters in the old Tudor house known as Wisteria Cottage. I now live with my wife Elizabeth in a house we designed and built in what was part of the garden of Wisteria Cottage. I started my cabinet making business in a shed behind my parents’ house in 1982. I have worked extensively throughout Suffolk and surrounding counties renovating and updating mostly older properties and interiors. I am passionate about our village and the environment we live in and have been involved with The Suffolk Wildlife trust with water vole projects on the river Ore and a reintroduction project of our red listed/endangered native grey partridge.

Lucy Lavender

Duties & Responsibilities: Vice Chair

I have lived in Hacheston for 2 1/2 years now. I live with my husband Robert and my grown up son Joe and his girlfriend Harriet.  We have three dogs. A Labrador, terrier and English setter. I also have a grown up daughter Alice who is a paramedic and a Son in Law - Ash who live nearby in Woodbridge.
I work as a specialist nurse within the safeguarding arena, and historically I was a health visitor in Suffolk for 10 years. As a result of this I am passionate about caring for the environment we live in and ensuring we live in a safe, clean, environmentally friendly, presentable village where we can all have the best possible health outcomes and  feel proud to live here.
I joined the parish council as I want to share and contribute to making Hacheston a wonderful safe village to live in.

Graeme E Hall

I joined the PC in 1996 and was also the Chairman for 12 years. I am a musician and play the organ in the Benefice.  I have been a music examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for 42 years.

Chris Hurlock

Duties & Responsibilities: Village Hall Representative

I joined Hacheston Parish Council when I was 28, (they wanted some young blood on the PC), however now 76, maybe I've overstayed my welcome!! I became Chairman when the original one retired and when the Clerk, moved to Framlingham a couple of years later, I became an Acting Clerk for about 18 months.

have two Classic cars, both Sunbeams- a 1966 Tiger Mk 1 and recently purchased, a 1960 Rapier lll convertible. The Tiger I have owned since 1973 and when I reached 62, stripped it down to bare body shell, had it acid dipped and then spent the next 15 years rebuilding it to its factory spec. I also run and organise a monthly gathering of other Rootes vehicle owners, arrange annual events, and I designed and built a website: www.rgea.org.uk

When I left school in 1966 I became a farmer and when my Grandfather died we were able to start renovating the Hall, (in 1951 Grandfather decided to convert it into a grain store, similar to Bernard Matthews conversion of his Elizabethan Manor to a turkey shed- work to repair some of the damage continues still!)

I was a farmer for 30 years until we went into set-aside, I  started my own business, 20 years ago 'The Heat Demon Limited', as an oil heating engineer,  ... I'm still not retired but beginning to slow down a little!! I am starting to feel my age but I have a little way to go to catch up with Father!!

I can be contacted by email or telephone:  chris@theheatdemon.co.uk 01728 748478

Originally a Woodbridge lad, I have lived in Hacheston since 2018. My wife and I are local Funeral Directors within the village and it is a honour to service our local community.

In my spare time, I can be found on the river canoeing or kayaking with my sons or teaching the local Sea Scout group.

We have three border terriers and also a Suffolk Punch called Jim.

I love being in the countryside, and we are very lucky to live in such a beautiful village.
